Unique, one-off performance
Michael Hersch – The Vanishing Pavilions
Michael Hersch, pianist
We have invited the American composer and pianist Michael Hersch to come to the Netherlands for a unique, one-off performance. Like a host of composers before him, Michael Hersch draws inspiration from poetry. He does not always literally transform his inspiration into songs, but frequently works out his ideas in a purely instrumental form. After reading Christopher Middleton’s poetry, Hersch felt a strong artistic and spiritual bond with the British author. This was the inspiration that led to The Vanishing Pavilions, a gripping cycle for solo piano.
Michael Hersch (1971) is an American composer and pianist. He is regarded as being one of the most talented composers of his generation. He has worked with big American orchestras and with ensembles such as the Philharmonic String Soloists from the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, the Kreutzer Quartet and the Hague-based Ensemble Klang.
