In C: smashing opening of the new season

On Saturday September 7th the Spotlight Festival will take place in The Hague! The opening of the 2024-2025 cultural season, where The Hague artists and stages present themselves and give sneak previews of what will be shown in the upcoming season. That afternoon, Festival Dag in de Branding and Amare will present a dazzling performance of Terry Riley’s In C, by musicians from eight different ensembles in The Hague.

Curious about the Big Bang of American modern music? This is it, for real! After the premiere of this Terry Riley classic in 1962, everything in music suddenly changed. Riley gives a lot of freedom: the instrumental line-up is completely open, there is no conductor and the performance can last as long as the players want.
Every performance of In C is a happening, but the fact that – approximately – 25 musicians from the Hague ensembles HIIIT, New European Ensemble, Ensemble Klang, Matangi Quartet, 9×13, Modelo62, Kluster5, SoundWave Collective and the Residentie Orkest join forces makes this version really special. Under the direction of Wim Vos, the musicians fill the public space with the intoxicating sounds of Riley’s timeless masterpiece as the kick-off of the Spotlight Festival in Amare.
