Composer Roi Nachshon catches the imagination with ‘Percano’ (percussion and piano in one). He writes a new piece for ensemble Kluster5 featuring the Percano: an elaborate self designed contraption mounted on a piano and played by a percussionist – having one idiomatic musical behaviour unconsciously controlling another through a third party mechanism of arms and levers, to create something which sounds familiar and impossible at the same time. This new piece will see the Percano sitting in its natural habitat among saxophones, violin, guitars and keyboards, pronouncing thoughtful harmonies with fists and sticks.

Kluster5 is a young ensemble based in The Hague. The unusual combination of violin, saxophone, percussion, guitar and piano creates opportunities to explore many different styles of music, from contemporary classical to jazz and pop. By playing works written especially for the ensemble, Kluster5 brings an unheard modern sound.
The ensemble develops in different directions by cooperating with leading artists from various disciplines. In July 2016 Kluster5 performed a show at music festival Wonderfeel in which the ensemble members will be choreographed by choreographer Regina van Berkel. In August 2016 the ensemble worked with composer/jazz pianist Martin Fondse, and toured with a program of their own compositions and improvisations.
Kluster5 will be ensemble in residence at the coming edition of the Gaudeamus Muziekweek.
