In the summer of 2021 Claudio F Baroni noticed that while the pandemic seemed to end, the world around us was devastated. Empty cities, new contamination figures every day and countless anonymous deaths. In Confessions, Baroni wants to respond to this oppressive atmosphere. He chose a number of poems by Anne Carson that capture in words what we are so desperately missing now: human relationships and conflicts, which are inextricably linked with names, faces, present and past. Carson’s poetry revolves around those small everyday events that have suddenly disappeared from our lives.
Vis insita (2021) is based on a technique that Baroni developed for double bass and a loop station, in which the bassist plays a string continuously. By using the loop station, this is stacked into a multi-layered acoustic structure. During Dag in de Branding the piece will be performed on piano, bass clarinet, electric guitar, double bass and accordion, all with loop station.
